Nothing better than spring in Southern Oregon

Last weekend I took the time to drive up to the Greensprings and hike up to Soda Mountain. Half hour drive and the feeling of isolation was palpable. During my hike, I had time to reflect on how lucky I am to live in Southern Oregon. We have world class theater, Southern Oregon University, great restaurants and open space as far as the eye can see. Reaching the top of Soda Mountain, there is a fire lookout and 360 degree views.  Looking south I could see Mt. Shasta, to the East was Mt. McLoughlin, to the West was Mt. Ashland, and to the North was Emigrant Lake and the Rogue Valley.  On my way down, I was blown away by all of the wild flowers that were just about to burst. Some had already peeked out but most were on the edge. The freshness and quiet of being out in remote wilderness was refreshing and made me incredibly thankful to call Ashland my home. Hope you’re all out getting to enjoy the beauty of Southern Oregon this spring too.
